Obituary. William C. Ford was born in Haywood county, N.C. June 14th, 1813 and died of pneumonia fever at Melville, Winston county, Alabama, March 9th, 1893. He was married to Sarah I. Best in 1841. His dear companion preceded him to the glory land just nine months ago. By this happy union there was but one child born, which is Dr. D.B. Ford, our efficient representative in the legislature. Uncle Billy lived quite a number of years on earth, but at last he had to go as all mankind. He joined the Missionary Baptist church in early life and lived a consistent member until death. He called his family around his bedside and told them that he must leave them, that his time here on earth was done, but he was willing to go to a better home than this where he could sit on the right hand of God and sing his praises with the snow white angel band, and be with the Blessed Saviour forever more, where there will be no sickness, pain nor death, but one eternal bliss of happiness. He leaves one son, several grand children and great grand children and a host of friends to mourn his loss. But we should not weep nor mourn on account of his absence, but so live and act that when God calls for us that we will be ready to pass safely over the valley and shadow of death and fear no evil--ever looking forward to Jesus Christ the author and finisher of our faith, and be able to leave the testimony behind that the good and father left. He made his will before he died giving the most of his property to his son. His remains were deposited in the family graveyard on the old homestead. The last solemn ceremony was conducted by Rev. Thomas Burrell, in a very impressive manner. [poem] T.C. Gibson.
